From the writer's desk to the bookstore shelf
Slice is hosting its second annual writers' conference on July 20 and 21. This year, we've expanded our reach beyond a first book deal. Top editors, agents, and authors will discuss the crucial steps that help launch a writer's career. But a book deal is just the beginning of a writer's professional journey. We've invited leading professionals to offer trade secrets about how they transform a great story into a bestselling book (and what writers can do to help them get there). These discussions will cover essential elements of the publishing process, all with the emerging writer in mind. Discover:
-
What are editors and publishers really saying about your project in editorial meetings?
-
What happens to your book after you strike a deal with a publisher?
-
How exactly does the sales team get behind your book, and what can you do to help them?
-
What is the cover design process like? What if you're stuck with a cover that you feel is all wrong for your book?
-
What are subrights, and how can they give new life to a book that isn't selling well?
-
How will your book's initial print run affect its future?
If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and work on a pitch letter, sign up for one of our workshops. Top literary agents will help you refine your fiction or nonfiction pitch. Acclaimed poets will help you figure out a strategy for placing your poetry in a variety of publications.
