Press and Reviews

“Beautiful, compelling, irresistible: Slice will knock you right out. In the best way possible.”
-- Junot Diaz, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

Slice is among the golden few of modern literary publications, not only because of its fiction, poetry, interviews, and articles, but because it's simply the one everyone is talking about.”
-- Simon Van Booy, winner of the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award and author of The Secret Lives of People in Love

Rising Voices Online Exclusive

For this issue's Rising Voice section, Slice invited high school students from Learning Leaders' Room to Write Program to submit stories on the theme of Villains.  We were so impressed by every entry! These four stories were selected to appear in the print edition of Slice:

"Suspicious" by Aderlyn Lopez

"At the Valley" by Han Minh Tran

"Love for a Sister" by Daysi F. Fernandez

"Demons" by David J. Castelan

Every story proved that these students are writers in the making, so we're thrilled to be sharing the rest of them in this Rising Voices online exclusive. Watch out: Not only are these kids sure to be tomorrow's literary stars, but their scary, villain-themed stories are not for the faint of heart! Click each story title to read the entire work. All of our writers are tenth graders at Bronx Early College Academy (BECA).

"I Love You" by Kasandra Reyes

"Sinister" by Ian Laurel

"Stand By Me" by Perla Troncoso

"That Woman" by Ana Medina

"Untitled" by Richard Heredia

"When It Rains" by Argelys Breton

"Faze" by Benedicta Agbodza

Many thanks to Elizabeth Evans and everyone at Learning Leaders and Room to Write for teaming up with Slice on such a fantastic project. We're proud to be publishing these budding stars for the first time!
